#Project365 25/52

We took Grandson Ashley out for the day on Tuesday. We traveled up to Ross-On-Wye and walked around the town, there are lots of charity shops and I like to pop in to see if they have toys suitable for Ashley. In one he spotted a soft toy and picked it up. It’s a reindeer and is also a back pack. I’ll be handy for future days out so we bought it for him, it was only £2! We popped into the local ‘spoons for some lunch. Then we drove down to the riverside so Ashley could have a run around. We took his JCB truck and a football with us. He loves his truck and enjoyed whizzing up and down the paths. He also liked Grandad setting him off down a grassy slope.
Mid afternoon we decided to travel back via the A40 to Monmouth then the A466 to Tintern / Chepstow – the A40 from Monmouth to Newport is such a BORING road. There is nothing to look at, no points of interest along the way. The A466 is a drivers road, twists and turns and good bit of concentration!!
We stopped off at Tintern for some refreshments and Ashley played on the playtower and ran around a playhouse in the pub gardens. He had us in stitches, we sat in the playhouse and he ran around the outside playing peep boo!!
We then traveled on to Chepstow and stopped at the garden centre as we have no hanging baskets up yet! They also have an aquatic and reptile centre there. We took Ashley in to see the fish and reptiles but what he enjoyed most was the chickens and the fountains.

Day out

Day out

We’ve not done much else this week, I’ve tidied up the garden and planted the hanging baskets. (I’ll pop piccies of them up soon).

I made a turkey madras following a recipe from the Curry Guy – the only change I made to the recipe was to pop it in the slow cooker.  It was really good – Hubby even said it was better than we get from the takeaway. 🙂

Oh one last thing – I didn’t get the job 😦 Apparently the example I gave for dealing with under performing staff was rather unorthodox.. I know not to use that particular example again!! At least it was feedback I can work on rather than the stock answer of ‘there was a stronger candidate’!

Project365 8/52

After a good resting my knee felt better at the beginning of the week. The weather forecast for Tuesday was bright and dry so we decided to have some time out in Ross-On-Wye.

Ross is a lovely town just north of Monmouth and on the Welsh/English border. The thing I like most is that there are some small independent shops and cafes. One of the cafes had a mural painted on the front and side of the building. I think it’s very arty.
One thing we were on the look out for was a small chair or seat for our dressing room – hubby can’t put his trousers on stood up!!! We had a rummage around in a few of the second-hand and antique shops and found a small chair under some boxes and a stack of fabric. It’s upholstery is in good condition but the wood needed a good wipe down. We asked how much it was and the owner said we could take it away for £24! What a bargain when you consider how much a new one would cost and it wouldn’t have any of the character of the oldie!

Someone passed on their lurgy to me and I came down with a heavy cold on Wednesday. I didn’t go out of the door until we went food shopping on Friday, I was knackered by the time we came back and curled up for a sleep on the sofa!

This morning I took some macros of the moss and lichen growing on our bedroom windowsill – outside of course!!

Catching up on #Project366 again!!

Here I am again catching up on the week.  The weather has been glorious for this time of year,  I’m not one for sitting in the garden, it bores me rigid! I’d much prefer to be on my lappy pootling around the internet. However that has its drawbacks too as I get rather frustrated with the job hunting. Hubby is also off work at the moment after failing his medical last week. He has to get his blood pressure under control before he can go back to work. If this is what retirement is going to be like then get me a job!!

Mid week we decided to forego the ‘essential use’ only for the car and went out for the day. The plan was to go to Abergavenny and hubby turned left towards Chepstow.. argh we are going the wrong way.. no he says, we’ll go via Chepstow and Monmouth!

If you look at any map you’ll see that Abergavenny is north of Newport/Pontypool and Chepstow is East! I would have just gone north but hubby wanted to have a scenic drive hence the detour to Chepstow. The journey takes you on this route – Home to Chepstow, turn off towards Tintern, carry on past Tintern, Llandogo, Redbrook and Wyesham to arrive at Monmouth. It’s a lovely scenic route – wasn’t quite the same in my Seat Leon – last year we also had his MR2, nothing like get the top down on a drive like this!

Well at Monmouth we decided we’d go to Ross-on-Wye. We parked at the bottom of town and walked along the river bank and up into the town. We’ve not been to Ross for a couple of years, it’s pretty little town built on a hill above the river, lots of locally owed shops which sets it apart from the bigger towns here in South East Wales (yes I know Ross is England but it’s near enough!)

There were a few photo opportunities to be had but I hadn’t noticed that my camera battery was nearly dead.  I managed to get a couple along the river and despite feeling like a tourist in the town I stood and took the first picture of the Market Place. I pressed the zoom button and CLICK.. battery dead. ARGH I was so annoyed that I hadn’t noticed the battery meter. I couldn’t even get shots with my phone as that was at home charging after I forgot to connect it the night before..

So here is my one decent shot of Ross (88/366)
