Week 21 #Project365 – 2015

Hello all – week 21 already!!

Now that the weather is a bit better we’ve been out and about on a few walks.  It’s been good to get out and swipe the cobwebs from my brain.

Sunday –  Finished late in work, just seemed to take ages to do everything! Didn’t do much with the rest of the day.

Monday – Didn’t do much today, caught up with cleaning the house.

Tuesday – Went to see Mad Max – Fury Road, oldest son came along with us. Hubby and son really liked the film but I found it rather repetitive. Max is now played by Tom Hardy and he does nothing for me – he’s rather overrated IMHO.  The film is mainly him and a few others trying to outrun others chasing them.. lots of violent fighting and not much else.

Wednesday – Visit from son and the boys. Theo is crawling well now but prefers to pull himself up, he’s getting into everything too.. Ashley came running into the kitchen, ‘drink please Nanna’ then proceeded to raid the fridge for a yogurt!

Thursday – We felt rather lazy so drove down to Redwick and had a short walk around the local lanes. I haven’t been down there for a few years and it’s only 4 miles away. There’s a rather fine church and a pub and not much else other than a few houses.  The whole area was flooded back in 1607 and the resulting land area has become the Gwent levels and is classified as Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Friday – Usual work followed by a nice relaxing evening.

Saturday – Usual shopping and visit to the MIL. Researching domain names, self-hosting and thinking about how I want the new blog to look.. Scary but exicited.  May ask the Aussie DIL to design a suitable logo. Any ideas are welcome!!

Here’s my selection for this week:

21-52-15 (640x453)

Above:

  • Theo getting into everything at the coffee table.
  • Swan seen on one of our walks.
  • Magor wetlands – this is what’s known locally as a reen.
  • Ashley – Cheese!! loves climbing in-front of the camera!

Week 16 #Project365 – 2015

A quiet week for me this week.

Sunday / Monday – 2 quiet days, work and a bit of a tidy up at home.

Tuesday – Went to see John Wick – film starring Keanu Reeves as a retired assassin who’s mourning his wife’s death. His car gets stolen and his dog is killed by some Russian thugs…thing is the thug is his ex-boss’s son. All hell breaks loose! Good action and story and Reeves is really intense in the lead role. Although it must have taken him all of an hour to learn his lines…he says very little throughout the movie.  We only went to see it as it was the best of very few to choose from. Both Hubby and I were surprised at how good it is.

Wednesday – work went ok today. Not much else happened!

Thursday – Shopping at Morrisons as they had offers on Tetley tea and Lucozade.  I had to get someone to check the price on Lucozade as it wasn’t showing as on offer. Assistant said he thinks it came off offer on Sunday… oh no Pet… it was still showing at £2.50 this morning on YOUR website…
I had to walk around the store to get a wifi signal and managed to get the page showing on my phone. I showed it to the same assistant who was then talking to the manager. After a bit of argy bargy over whether it was an online only price (it wasn’t) they agreed to sell it to me for £2.50.
Then when I checked my receipt a small piece of ginger (no bigger than your thumb) showed up at £1.20 and 2 small carrots showed at weighing 640g – over 1lb in weight??  That was a visit to the customer service desk to get it checked and refunded. Both should have come to 42p!!
I relayed it all to their ‘Talk to Morrisons’ site and put it on their Facebook page! The staff looking after the FB page were really good and gave me £10 of Match and More points. I call that a result!

Friday– reasonable day in work, even had a laugh!! Bit of smutty talk going on and it resulted in us all cracking up!

Saturday – A rush about day – down to MIL then back home for a wash and change and off to Cardiff to see Simple Minds – for the 3rd time! Fab gig and great atmosphere.
We got caught in traffic on the way there which only left us just over an hour to get dinner and a sneaky pint!

Week 15 #Project365 – 2015

I’ve had a lovely family week – seeing both grandsons smiling and laughing is enough to light up anyone’s day!

Easter Sunday – Son, DIL and grandsons came for Easter lunch. We had a lovely time together but it was tinged with a little sadness when DIL told us that her grandfather had passed away. She was feeling rather guilty for not going up to Blackpool with her folks for the funeral. There’s not much you say to ease the sadness.

Monday – We were going to go out for a drive but decided to have a nice relaxing day at home, tidying the garden and enjoying the sunshine.

Tuesday – With the demise of Orange Wednesday we’ve not been to the cinema for over a month. Tuesdays may be our new day as it’s cheaper. We are both fans of the Fast and Furious franchise so went to see the 7th installment. This time round they have Jason Statham after them to avenge his brothers death. I would have loved to have seen the production notes that said Statham was to square up to Dwayne Johnson!! Much of the film is far fetched and some parts defy physics but as long as you can park your brain and just watch it as good action entertainment you can’t go far wrong.
As you may know Paul Walker died whilst the film was still being made. They have done a great job of keeping his part going using body doubles and CGI and the ending is a really poignant goodbye to him.

Wednesday – Work day which was brightened up by the arrival of my Jord watch!

Thursday – Usual shopping day.

Friday – Work day -as we handle cash the office is security controlled and we have control over who enters the office. I pushed back in my chair to press the button to let someone in and I fell off my chair and bashed my arm on our CCTV cabinet. Top of my arm is pretty sore and a bruise is developing but what’s worse is that it was all captured on camera! There are a few people going to have a good laugh.

Saturday – early phone call from son asking if we would like to take Ashley for the day. Well we’re not going to say no! A bit of colouring and drawing first, then some time on my tablet. I never fail to be impressed with him on apps, we have one with a subgame of mazes and he guides the ball around and you can see that he’s working out where to go rather than just guessing.  He loves the CBBC app and The Furchester Hotel is his favourite on that one. BUT is absolute favourite is Angry Birds!
At lunchtime we popped down to see his Great Granny Mo and a visit to the park on the way back. Then it was back home to catch up with his Mummy, Daddy and brother.

Here’s a selection from the week and some extras from our time in the park.

soosie wales, project 365,

  • How relaxed does he look here?
  • Well not relaxed as having your feet up too!
  • You have to have a cone with sprinkles and sauce for a lovely day in the park!
  • I-Spy!

Hope you’ve all had a great Easter week.

Week 8 #Project365 – 2015

I’ve had a pretty uneventful week.  It’s been odd seeing the living room without the 2 seater sofa, makes the room look massive! Hubby has been sat on my sofa (we rarely sit together – he lounges over the 2 seater and I do the same on the 3 seater!) which means he can see what I’m doing on the laptop. So the week has been dotted often with ‘who’s that?, What’s that picture of? What competition is that?’ It’s got so bad that I had to give up on commenting on blogs as it was taking so long with his interruptions!! Normal service will resume this week!!

Sunday – I wasn’t looking forward to going to work as I knew there would have to be a rather difficult conversation with the person who does the first half of the day. I spoke to our Section Leader last week and explained that I’ve only left by my finish time of 3pm once in the 4 months we’ve been open.  There’s a lot of the processing work left for me to do and it’s an unfair division of work.
The early person wasn’t best pleased that she got told off. BUT she had done some of the processing which meant I actually finished with 5 minutes to spare.  So hopefully that’s one problem solved.

Monday – Visit from son and the boys. Theo is getting very strong and can more or less sit up for a minute or so. It’s quite funny seeing him trying to crawl when he’s placed on the floor.. the legs kick and all he achieves is turning on the spot.

Tuesday – Work day – went really well today and finished early – it was a nice change.

Wednesday – Orange Wednesday – Project Almanac, this film is about some high school students that find a time machine in the basement. The boys father was a scientist and died in a car crash when the boy was 7. It’s an ok film that could have been so much better.  The students are pretty vacuous and only time jump for their own benefit.
This is also probably the last Orange Wednesday as it ends next week. BOO….

Thursday – quiet day catching up on household duties and food shopping.

Friday – Work day – I can honestly say I’ve never worked with such a load of back stabbing, moaning, whinging people in all my working life. I think it’s time for head down, arse up and only speak if I need to.

Saturday – highlight of the week – we had Ashley for the day so his mummy and daddy could go to Cardiff. We took him to a park for a bike ride and a kick about. I only managed a couple of photos though as the camera battery died.
We watched some Peppa Pig while eating lunch and then we played with his Playdoh. Lovely day full of smiles!

Here’s my selection of the week.

Week 6 #Project365 – 2015

We had a rather busy week.

Sunday – I was doing extra hours in work to cover for holidays. I managed to finish by 2pm so had most of the afternoon to laze about.

Monday – GOOD NEWS!!! The plumber turned up and fixed the water supply. The pressure valve he fitted last week just needed adjusting and the leak on the water cylinder didn’t need a part after all…just uncoupled and new plumbing tape fitted to it. So we now have lashings of hot pressurised water!!

Tuesday – Lazed around the house, tidying and cleaning.  We arranged last week for the leather repairer to do some repairs to our big sofa. One seaat pad has a hole worn in it and part of the foam had slipped making it look lop sided. It has to be taken apart in the house as it’s too big to go through the door. It was a tight fit even when it was new!
It’ll be gone for a week then the 2 seater is off for some new padding.

Wednesday – Work day – finished later than usual so we had to change plans for Orange Wednesday and go later than planned. Hubby had got a couple of casseroles out of the freezer and peeled some potatoes so all we had to do was get them cooked and reheat the casseroles when we got home.
This week we watched ‘Kingsman – The Secret Service’, imagine James Bond taken to higher level.. it’s wickedly funny, full of action and really rather mad.  It’s about a very secret service that operates beyond the usual MI6 and they are recruiting for a new member after the demise of one spy at the start of the film. All the new recruits are put through tough tests to prove their worthiness.
The film rattles along at a good pace and there are some great set pieces. One in particular with Colin Firth battling against a church full of people to the backing sound of Lynard Skynard’s Freebird.  Well any film that has that tune in it is ok in my book as it’s in my top 3 all time great tunes.

Thursday – working again to cover holidays.
Hubby bought a load of curry / chinese sauces from the local supermarket. All going for a bargain as they are not going to stock Pataks /Sharwoods any longer.  Nice to have for those times when you want to cook up something quick or for the times you can’t be arsed to cook from scratch!!
We went to see Oldest boy and the kiddies. Ashley is much more interested in his brother now that he’s taking more notice. He loves to make him laugh and Theo smiles as soon as he sees him. I hope they have’ll always have brotherly love like their daddy and his brother.

Friday – Good news from Oz, youngest son has WiFi back!! Gawd I’ve missed having him online.. they moved from their house to an apartment so he had an easier journey to work and since moving they’ve had to wait for a new connection to the phone lines and broadband.  A good Skype session planned for Sunday morning.
It’s hubby’s 60th on Sunday and we went out for a buffet curry.. how good am I to agree to that rather than watch Wales v England in the 6 Nations. (I’m the rugby nut – he’s not sport minded at all)

Saturday – Not much going on. Caught up with a few blogs and trying to clear my laptop of loads of crap to make it run a bit faster.

Here’s my selection for the week.

Week 5 #Project365 – 2015

Week 5 or the ongoing problems with the airing cupboard!

Sunday – my sunday working hours are 11:30 to 3pm but this week I didn’t make it out until 3:45.  I’m always left with a lot of processing to do and it’s just not a fair share of the days work. I’ll be speaking to management about it as I’m heartily sick of it.

Monday – Still no sign of engineer to sort out the water problems. Rung the insurance to be told they are still waiting for the quote and then they’ll process it.  I called a further 3 times and told them at 3pm they have until 10am Tuesday to get it moving.

Tuesday – 10am on the phone to the insurance trying not to go ape s**t. Asked that the claim is escalated and passed to complaints.  Within 20 minutes had a call back to say complaints will be chasing it. In the mean time I contacted Royal Sun Alliance on twitter and after an email to them I was called back to say they were on it too. (they use an outsourced company to take and deal with claims).

Wednesday – Day off work and I was determined not to have another day hanging about the house waiting for the insurance to call. Orange Wednesday was planned for Ex Machina – the film is about a chap (Caleb) that wins the chance to go to his bosses home and see what he’s developing. He builds AI robots and Caleb is tasked with testing Ava to see if she has a consciousness. To be honest I can’t tell you more as it’s film that if you know how it pans out it would spoil it. It is however very interesting and doesn’t pan out as you’d think it might.

When we got home there was a message on the answerphone to say the engineer was coming Thursday early afternoon.. WOOO HOOO…

Thursday – Food shopping in the morning then waiting for the engineer to arrive. He came at 3pm, fitted the new valve said all was now ok. We waited for the water to heat up and Hubby jumped in the shower.. oh dear the pressure died after 30 seconds. Then we noticed a wet patch on the floor of the airing cupboard – another leak this time from a pipe on the water cylinder. I could have wept!! Back on the phone to report it and they called back an hour later with some instructions from the engineer – turn off the water flow to the cylinder and he’ll come again on Friday.

Friday – Working day for me, Hubby dealt with the engineer – the first one that came – he can’t work on our system as he’s not qualified! He did order new parts and we’re now waiting for them to be authorised!!
When I got home I rang the chap I’ve been dealing with at Royal Sun and he assures me that the quote is in and they’ll call me soon and hopefully the right engineer will come on Monday. It’s becoming a bliddy nightmare and I’m definitely not renewing come renewal time!  So check now if you have Home Emergency cover that they don’t use CET to field the calls as they are hopeless.

The day got better though with a visit from son and grandboys. 🙂 At one point our son had popped to the local shop and Hubby was making us all a drink. Ashley was sitting on the stool eating a little trifle and I was sat on the floor with Theo on my lap. Theo was looking at Ashley and Ashley started making slurping sounds with set Theo laughing. The more he laughed the more Ashley laughed, it was a moment that I wish I could have videoed!!

Saturday – Hubby’s 60 next week and has decided he wanted a cycle trainer to use on days that he can’t go out for a ride (when it’s cold / raining / windy!) We went to Halfords for him to take a look and to try one out.
All set up now in the spare bedroom he just has to get used to attaching the bike to it.

Week 3 #Project365 – 2015

Not an exciting week to start with.  No visit from the grandsons as Ashley is now back in nursery – hopefully see them tomorrow or Monday.

Usual work and food shopping and a few short walks when it wasn’t raining.

On Wednesday I worked out which days I could take as holiday. I have nearly 20 hours to use up before the end of March. I’ve now booked some days off for Hubby’s birthday and tagged an extra day onto my week in March.
Last year I won a week hotel stay in Cyprus and have booked to go in March. We are both very excited to be having a good holiday. The only downer is flying from Gatwick as there are no local flights to Larnaca.

We also did Orange Wednesday for the first time in ages!! We saw Taken 3, good but not as good as the first 2.

Here are 6 pictures as a selection for this week.

soosie wales,

  • Molly Cat – still living outdoors. Waiting for her breakfast.
  • Thermal cup – We can’t have hot drinks in the office unless they have a lid on. I bought this one for £3 and it keeps a cup of tea hot for well over 2 hours. I’ll be able to make a cuppa on arrival in work at 6am and it’ll still be hot when I’ve finished sorting out the tills and self-serve scanners an hour or so later.. #win
  • Passports ready for March!!
  • One of my favourite jams. I’ve not seen any in the shops for ages!!
  • Playing about with my Mobi Eye-fi card.
  • Orange Wednesday. Making the most of this as the promotion finishes at the end of February. Wonder what EE will replace it with?

Week 44 #Project365 – 2014

Another busy week with me working 5 out of 7 days. Oh and I HATE the clocks going back!! There was I just getting used to getting up at 5am and now I’m waking up at 4am!!

Work was better this week as we’re getting used to the processes and working it all out for ourselves most of the time. It still astounds me that this huge company doesn’t work from SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) or at least a step by step guide.  The only guides they have are pretty basic and don’t tell you what to do when you can’t balance the Cash Office!!

We were hoping to have Ashley for the day on Monday but son forgot that they had other plans so we didn’t get to see him and the baby until Friday.

The rest of the week flew by in a whizz of work and catching up on competitions and emails.  It’s great having hubby at home as he ‘keeps house’, I ring him on the way out of work and by the time I get home a mug of tea and lunch are on the coffee table waiting for me. #LuckyGirl

Managed to get to the cinema this week for Orange Wednesday. We saw Gone Girl,  I wasn’t expecting much as I’m not a lover of Ben Affleck but the reviews were good so thought we’d give it a try. It is a very interesting film with good twists.. can’t say more as it’ll be a spoiler. Ok Affleck is just a big wooden stick and is rather bland but it is worth watching if you like a good psychological thriller.

On my trawl through my emails I came across one from Sky which said I could now display my photos on my TV via their Sky+ App. How cool is that!!  I can take photos with my tablet, open the app and show them on the TV. The wonders of modern technology!!

Here’s this weeks pick of the best.

soosie wales, grandsons, cat, ladybird

  • A Twitter win from Carte Noir. I was surprised how nicely produced this little book is.
  • Molly Cat – still living outdoors.. Still won’t come in.. Silly moggy.
  • Probably the last Ladybird of the season.
  • Theo – he has 2 modes, sleeping and drinking his bottle.
  • Ashley – Quiet boy on Friday as he was poorly the day before.

How was your week?

Week 40 #Project365 – 2014

Work is going well, it’s all making more sense this week. I still have the Admin role to train on and I don’t think the management team is impressed that I’ve not done any of that yet. Their fault.. you can’t expect someone to learn 2 roles in under 3 weeks, I’m now booked to start Admin training at another store!

Been on a few short walks and also spent some time walking around Caerleon taking even more photos of the Amphitheatre and Roman Barracks. It’s done me good this week to get back out in the open air taking photos of random things. I feel energized again.

Orange Wednesday – A Walk Among the Tombstones – Liam Neeson’s latest film. Good drama/thriller about an ex-cop come private investigator. He gets involved with looking for men who are abducting women and then asking for ransom. Only the perpetrators are also sadistic killers.
Not filled with action but does move at a good pace. Let’s face it Liam Neeson is usually a safe bet in any film.. Yes??

Thursday a visit to see son, DIL and the boys. Theo is doing well and is now 8lbs and tends to sleep a lot too.  Ashley is very tender with him and when he’s dishing out kisses he gives babba one too!

We looked after Ashley for a bit on Friday whilst Mummy and Daddy did some food shopping. He loves being outdoors and we decided to show him some wildlife – spiders and ants! There was a spider on one of (many) webs in the garden and he thought it was fun to blow on the spider to see it move. He also noticed one on a web by the back door and some ants running along the patio.

Taking it easy on Saturday catching up with competitions and reading some blogs.
While finishing off this post I just had this conversation with other half:

Him: Catching up on competitions are you?
Me: No, doing the photo post and then commenting on some from last week, I’ve not done any yet!!
Him: Arh, why bother? you haven’t got time now.
Me:: What?? not likely I’m not giving up something I’ve been doing for nearly 3 years.
Him : ok no need to bite my head off…

Week 37 #Project365 – 2014

Hello everyone, I’ve had a very busy and hectic week but a very happy one!

Sunday – relaxing

Monday – Trip to Tredegar House and gardens. We didn’t go inside the house or formal gardens, just had a walk around the parkland and had a picnic.

Tuesday – DIL has been getting a few twinges and pains for a few days so we offered to have Ashley overnight just in case she went into labour. Son dropped him off after nursery and he helped Grandad to water the tubs.

Wednesday – All ready for nursery he wanted to take his Hamley’s cat with him!! His Mummy and Daddy picked him to take him to nursery and 30 minutes later son rang to say DIL waters had broken!
His other Grandad and Nanna was picking him from nursery and had him overnight. We still went to the cinema for Orange Wednesday! The Guest this week – a cracking film – Dan Stevens who plays The Guest is really creepy and there are some real butt clenching moments in the film.  Not the sort of person you would want to welcome to your home.

Thursday – No photo for today – I was at my work induction which took ALL day. I was bliddy knackered by the time I got home.  It was awful having my phone on silent and only checking it when we were at break… although I did sneak a quick look now and then when the boss left the room.. she was aware of the circumstances.

Friday – At 4:40am I had a text from our son to say that our second grandson had been born, 6lbs 15oz and will be called Theo. We picked Ashley up from nursery and took him to the hospital to see his mummy, daddy and new brother!

Saturday – Ashley stayed with us while Daddy went back to the hospital to see Mummy and Theo. They were discharged mid afternoon. It’s all quiet now and we can relax for a bit now!!

Below:

  • Singing the wheels on the bus
  • Ready for nursery
  • Wasp caught in a web – can you see the spider laying in wait??
  • Orange Wednesday – The Guest
  • Watering the tubs
